Xpanse MD: Creating Healthy Societies with Virtual reality Therapy

Globally, more than 300 million people suffer from depression, the leading cause of disability, with many of these people also suffering from symptoms of anxiety. The World Health Organization estimates that depression and anxiety disorders cost the global economy US$ 1 trillion each year in lost productivity. Research has overwhelmingly shown that a broad range of psychotherapeutic tools can significantly reduce the impact of mental health issues and improve wellness. The result is more resilient and engaged individuals and more cohesive and productive environments.

While the benefits of psychotherapy are well known, access to therapy is an ongoing barrier. There is a large gap between the needs of individuals and the availability of skilled professionals. A rapidly evolving body of evidence is showing a significant benefit of using immersive technology in the field of mental health and wellness. Consequently, XpanseMD is creating a series of physician-developed virtual reality modules to facilitate psychotherapeutic skills training.
